We are working with the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa to develop their first Climate Action Plan for the tourism sector. This marks an important step in the public sector’s leadership in recognising the challenges of climate change on the island and taking action towards solutions.
The president of the Cabildo (local government), Oswaldo Betancort, said, “Lanzarote is a particularly vulnerable territory and, therefore, we must respond effectively to these challenges, and facing the climate crisis requires a culture of prevention in which the entire society participates, present in all spheres of public and private activity. This new Culture must also be understood and adopted specifically by the tourism sector and all its agents, safeguarding our Biosphere Reserve, Geopark, and special protection over its territory.”
The collaboration was launched in Lanzarote this week, including a presentation from our sustainable tourism specialist Alicia Fajardo.
