Putting regenerative tourism into practice

Regenerative tourism is attracting growing interest across the tourism sector. But for many businesses, the question remains the same: what does it actually look like in practice?

Working with Green Traveller Media, we supported VisitEngland to develop a series of case studies showcasing tourism businesses across England that are already putting regenerative tourism into action.

Business and destination benefits

The businesses featured are all different, but there are common threads in the approach they take. Many have built their businesses around the distinctive character of their local area, whilst most are working closely with local suppliers, communities and partners, and are demonstrating that regenerative approaches can strengthen businesses as well as destinations.

You can read more about what we learned from the businesses we talked to in our case study, including inspiring examples from a bistro that lets the local landscape shape the menu, a retreat that has put nature restoration at the heart of its business, and a distillery and museum that is reviving local traditions while turning spent grain and other by-products into resources for local farms and businesses. The case study also shares practical tips that tourism businesses can take.

The important role of destinations

By sharing practical examples, building skills, encouraging collaboration and creating opportunities for peer learning, destination organisations can help businesses adopt regenerative approaches that strengthen the whole visitor economy, as well as the businesses themselves.

You can also explore all the regenerative tourism case studies we helped to create on the VisitEngland website.
